I like the three human needs for innovation in the workplace you’ve listed, Internal locus of control and External considering — I don’t quite get how Personal agency differs from 1 and 2 though?

I find myself triggered by the universal statement: “Feedback is one of the most toxic processes on the planet today.” I’m still curious how you’re defining feedback! I work in a self-managed organisation where we are constantly giving each other feedback, coming from a place of contributing to each other’s development, and I find it incredibly nourishing and enriching. It’s also challenging, but I believe it’s important to find our learning edge in order to grow. Surely feedback is a technology — it’s neither good nor bad, it just depends how we apply it. Some (perhaps even many) organisations abuse it, for sure, but I believe it can also be a force for good, as long as people have a choice and we train people in how to give feedback in a “healthy” way.

Some of the language around the psychological safety research isn’t to my taste but I take the general concept with a pinch of salt. I find it quite helpful. Amy Edmondson talks about a culture with a balance of psychological safety AND accountability. For me, that’s where the internal locus of control and external consideration you mention come in. What are your thoughts?
